Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Associate Professor, School of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, J&K conducted sessions on various topics of ‘Human Resource Management & Behaviour’ for Sher-I Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur. These sessions were organized for probationary Dy.SP and PSIs, who were undergoing their one year basic induction course at the Academy. Dr. Sharma has conducted in total 09 live sessions by using advanced pedagogical tools including business games short cases, role plays, etc. The officers were provided insight regarding the various aspects of human behavior at individual as well as group level. With the help of scenario building exercises, officers were sensitized regarding the relevance and significance of understanding of own behavior in order to comprehend the understanding of others’ behavior. Different perspectives of police behavior and personality were also deliberated with the newly inducted officers during the training sessions. The sessions also threw light on some of the perceptual errors narrating that real world may be same for all of us but the perceived world may not be the similar. The sessions also discussed how these perceptual errors can lead to various kinds of consequences especially in case of police officers who are holding front line job profiles. Deliberations regarding the four categories of police behavior including situational, individual, organizational and community were made with the help of short cases. The sessions also highlighted significance of conflict management skills on the part of the police officers and explained how the absence of these skills may aggravate the situations for all the stakeholders.
