21st June, Katra. The 5th International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). A yogasana and meditation session was organized to celebrate the Day. The session started at 5:30 AM and for the next two hours, participants performed different yoga postures, sukhsma vayayama and Pranayama under the guidance of Yoga instructor Mr. Gurmel. Faculty, staff, and students participated in the session. Further, a drawing competition was also organized for young kids. The University has approved cash prizes for the three best performers of both the events, the winners of which will be declared later. SMVDU is committed to the wellbeing of staff, students and society at large through the dissemination of knowledge of yoga and its benefits. Leading up to the Day of Yoga, various events such as yoga practice sessions and a National conference on Yoga and Naturopathy have been organized by the university previously.
