SMVDU Katra, August 2019: Mr. Balbir Singh & Mr. Sumit Sharma, Sports Coach, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), bagged silver medal in the South Asian Yoga Championship in Bhutan. The duo secured 2nd position in the South Asian Yoga Championship in the senior age categories between 31-39 and 24-30 age group. During the championship around 40 players from different countries participated, chiefly from India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Padam Shri Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha, congratulated the staff members, and wished them a success ahead. Mr Singh & Mr. Sharma expressed their gratitude to the honorable Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, for allowing them to participate in the championship.

Kakryal: Indo US one week Workshop on “Next Generation Logistics, Logistic Models and Supply Chains” started in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. This workshop is approved and partially sponsored by Indo-US Science and technology Forum (IUSSTF) being organized jointly by Department of Industrial Engineer, University of Pittsburgh, and Institution for innovation, Industrial Engineering and Entrepreneurship (IIIEE), India with support from the Institute of Industrial & System Engineers, at SMVDU, Katra, J&K. The first of its kind workshop is aimed at promoting the State of Art research in the Supply Chain Management and logistics. Chief Guest, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Professor, D. Mukhopadhyay inaugurated the IUSSTF workshop and congratulated the organisers, participants and, further addressed issues, importance of supply chain management in Industries. Professor Eswaramoorthy M., Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Dr. RK Mishra, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering, welcomed all participants to first Indo US workshop in SMVDU. Three Professors from premier USA universities are spokespersons for this workshop. Dr. Tapas Das, Professor & Department Chair, School of Engineering, University of South Florida, Dr. Bopaya Didanda, Ernest Roth Professor & Department Chair, Swanson School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Sunderesh S. Heragu, Professor & Department Chair, School of Industrial Engineering, Oklahoma State University and Dr. Bhaskar Bhandarkar, Director General, IIIEE are conducting sessions in the workshop. Dr. Balbir Singh, Associate Professor from School of Mechanical of Engineering is coordinating the workshop in SMVDU. Faculty members across the country and students of M.Tech (M&A) from SMVDU are attending this workshop.

Jammu, August 22: Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) released a book on Engineering Mechanics authored by Dr, Sanjay Mohan, Faculty in School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). Dr. Eswaramoorthy, Dean, Faculty of Engineeering and Dr. R.K.Mishra, Head School of Mechanical Engineering were also present in this event. Dr. Sanjay Mohan is having a vast teaching experience extending to more than 22 years, and during these years he has taught the subject many number of times. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor appreciated the writing skills of the author and also the manner in which the basic concepts are presented. Dean, Faculty of Engineeering and Head School of Mechanical Engineering also appreciated the efforts putin by the author and are confident that the students will be benefitted in understanding the subject thoroughly.

Kakryal: 5 days Indo-US workshop on ‘Next Generation Logistics’ and CEO Academia Conference concludes in SMVDU. Indo-US workshop was planned by Dr. Bhaskar Bhandarkar, Director General, Institution for Innovation, Industrial Engineering and Entrepreneurship (IIIEE) and sponsored by Indo US Science and Technology forum(IUSSTF) and TEQIP-III, SMVDU in which Dr. Tapas Das, Professor & Department Chair, School of Engineering, University of South Florida, Dr. Bopaya Bidanda, Ernest Roth Professor & Department Chair, Swanson School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Sunderesh S. Heragu, Professor & Department Chair, School of Industrial Engineering, Oklahoma State University conducted various session on research trends, current practices of supply chain managements (SCM) in the industries. CEO academia conference organized by IIIEE in which panel discussion was held on ‘SCM Challenges in the Emerging Economies and Way Ahead’. Professor Sundersh S.Heragu moderated panel discussion and Professor Tapan Bagchi (Retired Professor from IIT Kharagpur), Dr. RK Mishra, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Saurabh, Head, School of Business (SoB), Mr. BK Bhatia, Training & Placement Officer and Dr. Hari Govind Mishra, senior faculty member from SoB spoken on the issues. Visionary Speaks on ‘SCM & Logistics’ was given by Mr. Taranvir Singh Gujral, MD,T.V. Super Filter Industry, Jammu. IIIEE presented award to Mr. Shantilal Shambharkar, Sr. Mangaer for honouring Tata Steel for ‘Manufacturing Excellence’ and, ‘Entrepreneurship Excellence’ award was given to Taranvir Singh Gujral, MD, T.V. Super Filter Industry, Jammu and Award for ‘Industry Academia Networking Excellence’ was given to Mr. BK Bhatia, T&P officer, SMVDU. Dr. Balbir Singh, Associate Professor from School of Mechanical Engineering, Coordinator of an event given vote of thanks to all stake holders in the valedictory function of Indo-US workshop and CEO Academia Conference.

With the flag hoisting ceremony followed up by singing the national anthem, the 73rd Independence Day was celebrated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. Padam Shri Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, in his Independence speech addressed the members of faculties, students and staff. He emphasized that freedom is never free, but it comes with great responsibilities, and when someone is a teacher this responsibilities increase manifold because hundreds of students are observing a teacher. Further, he stated that one should keep an account of his/her progress, and one should introspect whether the milestones set, are achieved or not. He suggested the faculty members to engage themselves in research related activities so that they may increase their visibility in India and across the nation. Also, he urged students to indulge in only good and ethical activities. He also wished ‘Happy Raksha Bhandhan’ to all SMVDU fraternity, and with a positive note that we should work together for the progress of SMVD university, and with a chant of “Jai Hind”, the Vice-Chancellor concluded his speech.
