Katra, SMVDU. The Vice-Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof. RK Sinha, hoisted the tricolor flag at the Inaugural Pavilion, SMVDU Campus today. He delivered a speech to the faculty, staff and students of SMVD University, and motivated all to take the university at new heights. However, all cultural programs and school celebrations won't occur this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Katra successfully organized an online Model United Nations named (SMVDUMUN) – an educational simulation and an academic activity where students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations on 8-9 August 2020. Various participants from Rajkot, Mumbai, Dehradun, etc. participated in it. The Executive Board was a group of experienced personals from Delhi and Mumbai. The opening ceremony took place on 8th August 2020 at 10 am, which was followed by two committee session that ended at 4:30 pm. Day 2 of the conference 9th August 2020 began with the third committee session and ended with the closing ceremony at 5 pm.

The meeting was entirely online and took place on both Google Meet and Zoom. Mr. Rutwik Joshi from Pillai HOC College of Architecture, Mumbai won the best delegate award. Mr. Siddharth Singh from Graphic Era Deemed to be University, Dehradun won a high commendation, and Mr. Divyankar Jha from SMVDU Katra won a special mention. The organizing committee consisted of Ms. Anshita Gupta as the Secretary-General, Mr. Nikhil Saini Deputy Secretary-General, and Mr. Aryan Sharma as the Charge D' Affaires. Mr. Sumanta S. Sharma (President, BCA) and Dr. Rakesh Kumar (Vice President, BCA) coordinated the event with the help of Dr. Yugal Khajuria (DoSW). The Vice Chancellor of SMVD University, Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha appreciated the effort of the organizing team.
