The eighth Convocation of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) was held here today where the J&K Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor of the University, Manoj Sinha, was the chief guest and delivered the convocation address.During the convocation, 1168 degrees, including PhDs, Masters and Bachelors, were given to students, while a total of 08 gold medals and 10 silver medals were presented to meritorious students. There were also 21 recipients of Infosys Foundation Prize of excellence. While addressing the students and their parents, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the importance of education and wished all the degrees holders a bright future ahead. He emphasized that the students Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, had high potential which was evident from 81 PhD holders, and many students entering higher education institutions even outside the state.
While congratulating the degree holders, the LG said they all were about to enter the next phase of life and expressed confidence that they would contribute meaningfully for the welfare of the country in particular and humanity at large.Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU Prof RK Sinha presented a report, highlighting the past achievements and future action plans.The meritorious students who were awarded the Chancellor’s gold medal included: Shubhangi Suri, Simran Gandotra, K V Hari Shankar, Shubham Sharma, Sabra Parveen, Shriya Negi, Anjana Sharma, and Shubam Sharma. Besides these, several students received the university silver medals.
