Skill Development Workshop on Industrial Automation organized by student managed Automation and Emerging Technologies (AET) Club at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University concluded with a great learning experience among the participants.In the five-day workshop, students got hands on training on PLC, HMI,.and SCADA. Dr Balbir Singh, Club Faculty Advisor, briefed the session and presented a token of thanks to workshop resource person, Dr Himanshu Kumar, Director, Indwell Automation. On the occasion, Prof. Eswarmoorthy Muthusamy, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering, motivated the students to pursue the emerging field of automation for future. Dr Mir Irfan Ul Haq (Faculty Mentor, of the Club) also shared his knowledge with the students and emphasized a need for conducting more such workshops. Dr Ankush Raina, Assistant Professor, Mr BK Bhatia, Training and Placement Officer and Dr R K Mishra, Associate Professor also spoke on the occasion and thanked Mr Himanshu for conducting the workshop.The President AET Club, SMVDU, Mr. Agam Balotra, was also appreciated by the faculty advisors. The workshop concluded with a group photograph and all the participants had a great learning experience. The organizers thanked the SMVDU administration for their support.
Skill Development based five-day hands on workshop on Industrial Automation started at SMVDU by the Automation & Emerging Technologies Club (AET Club SMVDU_ to impart skills to students in the emerging technologies.Mr Himanshu Kumar, Director, Indwell Automation collaborated with AET Club for technical sessions and imparted hands-on training to the students. Chief Guest, Mr. Taranvir Singh, Managing Director, T.V. Super Filters Industries, Jammu, inaugurated the workshop and motivated the students. Mr. Singh urged students to work for Jammu and represent this state at a national level for there is a huge potential market base in Jammu. Prof. M. Eswharamurty, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, congratulated AET Club for organizing the workshop and stressed upon skill development to meet the Industry 4.0 requirement. Dr. Balbir Singh, Faculty Advisor, highlighted the activities of AET Club and its objectives for the students in the emerging technologies. Mr. Mir Irfan Ul- Haq, Faculty Advisor; Mr. B.K. Bhatia, Training & Placement Officer and Dr. Amit Sinha motivated students for skill up-gradation and practical exposure. Mr. Yatheshth Anand, Faculty Advisor, congratulated the AET club for this initiative. Mr. Agam Balotra, Club President and Mr. Ankit Pattnaik, Club Vice President contributed to make this workshop a success. Mr. Hriday Vasudeva, student coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks.
National Service Scheme, (NSS) and Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) SMVDU organised a human chain formation event to make aware students about discrimination against women at workplace. The event was organized during the "Discrimination against Women Pakhwada". The event started with the briefing on the topic by NSS Programme Coordinator Dr. Rajiv Kumar. The participants formed a human chain in the shape of "NO" to give a message to stop such discriminations against women and say NO to such instances in every organization. NSS volunteers, Ayush Arya and Muneeb also shared their views on the occasion. The event was successfully conducted by the NSS volunteers. Dr. Sharada M. Potukuchi, Presiding Officer, Internal Complaint Committee appreciated the efforts of the volunteers.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra today celebrated the 19th anniversary of inclusion of Dogri Language in the 8th Schedule as ‘Dogri Manyata Diwas’.The programme started by lighting the traditional lamp. Prof. Vishav Murti Shastri, noted Sanskrit scholar and Padamshree awardee while speaking on the occasion exhorted the people of Jammu region to put in all efforts to promote Dogri language, art and culture and preserve the Dogra heritage. “Dogri represents our linguistic identity and we need to make it a part of curriculum from school to university level” he said.
Prof. Shiv Nirmohi noted scholar of dogri culture and Padamshree awardee hailed the contribution of Dogri poets and writers for the recognition of the dogri language. He emphasized the need for promoting Dogri language and literature among young generation through institutions of learning. Prof. R K Sinha, Vice Chancellor SMVDU and Padamshree awardee while speaking on the occasion stressed the need for communicating in our mother tongue. “Unless and until we don't respect our languages we won't be able to respect our culture and civilisation and nation " he said.
The Padamshree awardees and the intellectuals demanded in unison the establishment of an independent academy for Dogri language. Dr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, School of Philosophy and Culture SMVDU delivered the welcome address. He stressed on the importance of the Dogri language, and how youngsters are getting interested in the Dogri popular literature through social media.The speakers emphasized the necessity of preserving Dogri language and urged dogri lovers to devote themselves in developing, promoting and popularizing the language by writing and producing quality literature and content in mother language. During the event the students were honoured for their contribution to languages.
A colourful cultural programme was organized at University Matrika Auditorium. The programme included rendition of Dogri folk songs and recitation of poetry. The event was attended by Nagendra Singh Jamwal Registrar, Neeraj Gupta Finance Officer, faculty, staff, scholars and students.On the occasion a documentary titled “Musicians of Mountains” showcasing the folk music, culture and traditions of Duggar region was released by the dignitaries followed by its display in the Matrika Auditorium. The documentary has been made by Gaurav Jamwal, under Board of Cultural Activities and funded by the SMVDU.The event was organised under the guidance Dr Isha Malhotra HoD School of Languages and Literature.
School of Civil Engineering (SoCE), SMVD University organized an expert talk on “Well Foundation: An Overview” by Dr. Jitesh Chavda, Faculty, SVNIT Surat. The talk was delivered to B.Tech. 3rd year students of SoCE. This lecture was an extension activity for the course 'Advanced Foundation Engineering’ which is a part of the curriculum of B.Tech. (Civil Engineering). Dr. Chavda shared the basic overview of the well foundation with examples from important Indian structures having a foundation as foundation system. He also discussed the construction sequence, related specifications and challenges faced during its construction. The speaker also highlighted limitations of the previous studies and scope for the future research. Further, the talk also emphasized the interesting outcomes of the recent experimental and numerical studies to overcome few of the limitations. The expert also addressed the questions raised by the attendees and research opportunities in this area. The talk was organised by Dr. Balbir Pandey, Faculty, SoCE and coordinated by Mr. Srijan, Faculty, SoCE under the guidance of Head, School of Civil Engineering. The talk was concluded with a formal vote of thanks.
Entrepreneurship Development Program sponsored by the Higher Education Department J&K inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University from 20-30 December, 2022, designed for college students and received active participation from various colleges across J&K. Shri Sumanta S. Sharma, Convener of the Program, welcomed all guests and participants. Shri Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Registrar, SMVDU, highlighted the university's achievements in various fields. Ms. Pooja Gupta, Entrepreneur, Nimbark Organics, Guest of Honour, encouraged students to pursue their dreams and to become entrepreneurs to help the employment generation.
The program was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, who in his inaugural address motivated the students to become job creators rather than job seekers and advised them to apply the knowledge to pursue their interests. Dr. Supran Kr. Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Management and the Program Coordinator emphasized that the program has been conceived with the idea to make young generation more familiar with what is happening and developing around them; understand their strengths; to go beyond their conventional thinking; nurture the culture of experimentation to redouble the innovation efforts. Dr. Sunanda Gupta, Co-convener of the event, delivered the formal vote of thanks to the dignitaries and participants. Around 100 students from different colleges of Jammu including GGM Science College, PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar, Govt. MAM College, GDC Kunjwani, GCW Udhampur, Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, GDC Neeli Nallah, GDC (Boys) Udhampur, GCW Parade and GDC Sidhra, are participating in this prestigious program, spanning over ten days filled with brainstorming and interactive sessions on the topics including ‘Entrepreneurship-A Practical Way’, ‘Entrepreneurship- Myths & Practicalities’, ‘Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analysis & Business Opportunities’, ‘Business Model Canvas’, ‘Frugal Innovations & Social Entrepreneurship’ etc. The modules of the celebrated program are prepared in such a way that the objective of National Innovation and Start-Up Policy may be achieved.
National Service Scheme, (NSS) and Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) SMVDU organised a poster making competition on sexual harrasment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal, Act, 2013) with an aim spread awareness among women and to stop discrimination against women.The theme of the poster making competition was "No means No", in which event 40 students participated, and through their posters have shown what is it like to face harassment at work place.The event was conducted by the NSS volunteers. Dr. Sharada M. Potukuchi, Presiding Officer, Internal Complaint Committee and Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Programme Coordinator appreciated the efforts of the NSS Team, and emphasized on the need of such programmes.
Students of III-IV year of School of Civil Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra showcased their models making talent through an exhibition as part of the curriculum, called ‘Transportation Engineering (Highways, Railways and Airways)’ and ‘High-Speed Railway Engineering’. The aim of this exhibition was to make students familiar, understand and enjoy learning subjects easily as they put effort and make models with their own hands. The students gave presentations during the exhibitions, and became familiar with public speaking and developed self-confidence. The exhibition was conducted under the guidance of Dr.V.K. Dogra (Head, SoCE) and there were a total of eighty-four students with thirty model works and coordinated by Mr. Ponnurangam P (Assistant Professor, SoCE). The Head, SoCE also distributed the participation certificate to all students. The model exhibition was a roaring success and allowed students to learn beyond the boundaries of books.
Microsoft, Gurugram hosted a technical session for students of Engineering of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.The event was conducted by Sarthak Jain, Head of Community Rekill, and Microsoft Employees which provided sixty students with an opportunity to explore the latest technologies and get hands-on experience. Microsoft employees provided students an in-depth understanding of the industry, the latest trends and best practices. The students were also visited Microsoft Office and interacted with the employees. The students gained industry knowledge and explored the possibilities of internships and job opportunities.They were also provided with the $100 Credits of Microsoft Azure and Goodies each.The trip was organized by Dr. Manish Sabraj (Head, SoECE), coordinated by Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma (Assistant Professor, SoCSE ). Also, student coordinators: Jatin Sharma, Sudeep Kumar,vAman Raj, Aman Kumar, Ritik Sharma, Nischay, and Rithik Kasera helped to make this event a success.This trip would help students learn beyond the boundaries of books.
The School of Computer Science and Engineering, SMVD University, inaugurated a two-day workshop on “Hybrid Learning Integrating Teaching Data Analytics and Business Intelligence”, sponsored by the Directorate of Quality Assurance, SMVDU, in which VC, SMVDU, Prof R.K. The Chief Guest, Prof. Anu .A. Gokhale, Professor and Chair, Department of Computer Information system, Saint Augustine’s University, US, apprised participants about the various techniques related to data analytics and business intelligence and their scope in different domains and research . Dr. Baijnath Kaushik, Head, School of Computer Science and Engineering, SMVDU, motivated participants to learn analytical tools and business intelligence tools and benefits of this hands-on workshop.
