The Central Library at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra is seeking entries on ‘Digital Economy: Opportunities and Challenges’ and ‘Social Media: A Two Edge Knife’. Dr. Suparn Sharma, I/C Librarian, informed that UG and PG students studying in any college and university in India are eligible to participate in the contest. The winner will be honoured with appreciation certificate of INR 10,000/-, 5,000/- and 2,000/- as first, second and third respectively. However, five candidates will be awarded with INR 1,000/- cash each. SMVDU Katra1stAugust 2018. NatrajNatyaKunj Cultural Society, Jammu is showcasing their play “URUBHANGAM” at Matrika Auditorium, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra at 05.30 PM on 02 August 2018. The organisers are also planning to add cultural flavour by including newly admitted semester-I students in the play so that they might showcase their talents. This entire activity will be the part of Talent Hunt, organised under Induction Programme for newly admitted B Tech students. Theplay, named "URUBHANGAM, The Shattered Thigh", based on MahaKaviBhasa’s 2000 Years old Sanskrit play “URUBHANGAM”. The play is a theatrical piece based on Indian epic Mahabharata. Moreover the play has beenawarded with 11 State Awards for Best Production, Best Director, Best Make-up, Best Actor, Best Costumes and many more by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture & Languages. Notably, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is famous for its promotion of regional arts, culture and languages, and within a short span of time it has made a niche among the academic institutions in Jammu & Kashmir state.
SMVDU Katra, 3rdAugust 2018. On the second last day of the induction program at SMVDU, Mrs. NeethaGilganchi, an accomplished soft skills trainer, addressed the newly admitted B. Tech students of various streams. She was introduced by Dr. Anil Tewari, Head, School of Philosophy & Culture, to the students. Mrs. Gilganchi interacted on an inspiring theme “Attitude of Gratitude.” She pointed out that there is a general tendency of taking the readily available things for granted. We are more after the things which are not with us so much so that we simply forget to see the relevance of the things at our disposal, she said. She cautioned that it should not mean that we should be complacent with whatever we have, instead we must long for the improvement over existing situation, but not at the cost of the value of the present. We should live every breath of our life fully with a sense of gratitude for whatever we have, she exhorted. Mrs. Gilganchi also conducted a brief activity engaging the students to demonstrate how the pre-conditionings tend to overpower our perception. In the end, Dr. Tewari thanked her for the inspirational talk, and presented a vote of thanks.
SMVDU Katra, 01 August 201. School of Philosophy & Culture at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized a special lecture by Dr. Bhaskarjit Neog, Asst. Prof., Centre for Philosophy, School of Social Sciences of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He spoke of the them “ Moral Responsibility: Individual vs. Collective”. The talk was focused on the behavior of people when they are in group. He remarked that for any individual effort, a person carries I-Intention and when the same person performs in group, the intention can be called We-Intention. Whereas in the I-Intention, a person ‘intends to’ certain things, in the We-Intention, the persons forming the group ‘intend that’ something is done. The talk was attended by the students and faculty members of different streams. The lecture was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anil Tewari, Head, School of Philosophy & Culture.
