To make students familiar with these latest technologies of the Tunnel Engineering and its operation, the School of Civil Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, visited Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel (Chenani-Nashri) on April 27, 2022. The tunnel has latest technology in all over the Asia. The trip was organized under the guidance of Dr.V.K. Dogra (Head, SoCE), accompanied by two faculties Mr. Ponnurangam P (Assistant Professor, SoCE) and Mr. Srijan (Assistant Professor, SoCE).

Mr. J.P. Sharma (Authorized Signatory), Mr. Omar Khan (I.E Resident Engineer), Mr. Faheem Ahmed Beigh (I.E Assistant Tunnel & Maintenance Engineer) and Mr. Arun Kattal (Site Engineer) at Chenani Nashri Tunnel Project coordinated the visit and all the other necessary arrangements.The students visited the tunnel site and learned about the service, operation and maintenance of the Chenani-Nashri tunnel project. They were made familiar with the control room, main tunnel features, service tunnel, ventilation duct, safety criteria and all other necessary information related with the tunnel. The trip made students to learn beyond the boundaries of books.

The Student Welfare Office, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with the JK Police, District Reasi, organized an awareness program on “Cyber Crime & Fraud”. Prof. R K Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU gave an insight into the need and importance of such awareness programs while stressing upon the role of various agencies and civil society at large in sensitizing the general masses about the various cyber crimes. At the outset, Registrar, SMVDU, Nagendra Singh Jamwal, JKAS, spoke about the various cyber crimes and welcomed all the participants.

SDPO Katra, Sh. Kuljeet Singh, spoke about the current scenario of crimes. He also presented a case study on the cyber fraud of Helicopter tickets in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. Inspector Manoj Gupta, Speaker of the Program addressed the gathering and created awareness among the participants regarding the different types of cyber crimes. SSP Katra, Sh. Amit Bhasin was also present on the occasion and shared his experience with the participants. The program ended with the formal vote of thanks by the coordinator, Dr. Ankush Raina, Assistant Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU. The event was the outcome of the coordinated effort of Dean Student welfare, SMVDU, Dr. H. G. Mishra, and SSP Reasi, Sh. Amit Gupta. The organizing committee expressed their gratitude to the administration SMVDU.More than one thousand participants from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Delhi Public School, Katra and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University attended the program. and Sub Inspector Ashutosh Bhalwal, Incharge police post, Kakrayal, Katra for providing necessary logistics and support.

National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized an awareness rally under the Poshan Pakhwada as per the directives by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (Govt. of India). The Poshan Pakhwada laid emphasis on two broad areas viz. (i) Identification and celebration of healthy children and (ii) Activities concentrated on the integration of modern and traditional practices on healthy India with the theme of good nutrition and healthy eating.

Around 30 students participated enthusiastically in the event. Students carrying the banner on Poshan Pakhwadaspread their message on nutrition through slogans and disseminated information regarding the inclusion of a healthy diet that increases the amount of iron and other nutrients in our bodies. The students also interacted with the children and discussed the diet they receive in Mid-day meal programs in nearby government schools. The parents were informed about anemia and other acute problems related to malnutrition. The NSS team was led by Shruti and team members included Mayank, Bhuvnesh, and Shivam. The NSS at SMVD University organized a week-long "Clean Campus Drive" as a part of the "Green Campus" initiative. The drive started daily in the morning at 6:45 AM for one hour to collect plastic wastes like bottles and wrappers. Sweeping of roads and other pathways on campus was also carried out during the campaign. The NSS volunteers were assigned different groups, and each group was allocated one location to be cleaned on campus. On the last day of the drive, the activity was carried out along the boundary of the University outside the campus. More than 80 NSS volunteers participated in this week-long cleanliness drive. Dr Rajiv Kumar, Programme Coordinator, NSS SMVDU congratulated the volunteers for successfully executing the drive. The Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. R.K. Sinha, also appreciated the efforts of volunteers and suggested that such activities should be planned every month.

A two-week National Workshop on Strategy and Sustainable Development under the Capacity Building Program sponsored by ICSSR and organized by the School of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) in collaboration with the Strategic management Forum of India and Research for Resurgence Foundation (21st March-2nd April 2022) concluded on 2nd April 2022. Twenty participants from Indian states took part in the workshop. The workshop was organized in the academic collaboration of the Strategic management Forum of India and the Research For Resurgence Foundation.

In the valedictory, the special guest Mr. Sachin Kr Jain, Ashoka Fellow and Director Vikas Samvaad, emphasized the need for academicians to identify the root causes of the problem that are major constraints in the development of society. The workshop had resource persons from the premier institutions of India that including IIT Bombay, BIMTECH, Indraprastha University, Jammu University, SKUAST-Jammu and SMVDU. The faculty members were provided training on the tools such as action research, appreciative inquiry methods, and qualitative inquiry frameworks. It was focused on developing faculty members for interdisciplinary research in the area of strategy and sustainability. The workshop had observers and representatives from ICSSR and SMFI and RFRF.

Dr. Suparn Kr. Sharma, Dean Faculty of Management, SMVDU, briefed the participants regarding the process of publication as one of the outcomes of the workshop. Dr. Saurabh, Head, School of Business, SMVDU, and Coordinator of the program presented a brief report of the program and said that the workshop shall yield valuable research outputs in terms of research papers and projects in the coming years. Dr. Deepak Jain, Co-Coordinator of the workshop expressed his happiness on the successful completion of the workshop. Dr. Rashi Taggar, Organising Secretary of the workshop, expressed her gratitude to Prof. RK Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, University administration, ICSSR, SMFI and RFRF as well as the participants for their respective support in the successful completion of the workshop.

Following the directives of the Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the National Service Scheme at SMVD University organized week long yoga sessions under "Yoga Mahotsav" to commemorate the upcoming 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21st June 2022.

The NSS SMVDU is committed to inspiring a “Mass Movement for Health and Wellbeing” through Yoga in the 75 -day countdown to IDY-2022. There are various other activities in "Yoga Mahotsav", such as sessions on mental health, lectures on Yoga and meditation and art of happiness workshop, and alike. The NSS volunteers have been actively participating in these yoga sessions under the guidance of yoga instructor Shri Gurmel. The Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. Ravinder Kumar Sinha, appreciated the efforts of the team NSS.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University broadcasted live Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) 2022 at Matrika Auditorium in which faculty members, staff, and students took part and get benefitted. The university took appropriate measures to ensure the arrangement of projection so that all students, teachers, and staff members of the university could view the live address of the Prime Minister of India. The Prime Minister of India interacted with approximately 1000 students from class 9th upwards on April 1, 2022, for the (PPC 2022) at Talkatora Stadium, Delhi.

NSS Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University distributed ration to construction workers in the University under Poshan Pakhwada Campaign. The NSS volunteers also distributed fruits to children and also briefed them about the nutrition deficiency issues. Around 20 volunteers participated in the event which was coordinated by NSS volunteers Tanya and Lovisha. The efforts of the student volunteers were well appreciated.

Thirty NSS volunteers and 5 members of Climate Front Jammu participated in the event with great enthusiasm. The team collected mainly plastic wastes including plastic bottles and chips wrappers. The event lasted for more than 2 hours in the early morning. The NSS Volunteers Pranav Sharma and Harshita led the NSS participants while Rajeshwari led the participants of Climate Front Jammu. The NSS Programme Coordinator, SMVDU Dr Rajiv Kumar and Head, Climate Front Jammu, Mr Aditya Khajuria, appreciated the efforts of the team members., and they believe that there is a requirement for more drives and awareness of local residents.

15042022 Baisakhi

On eve of Baisakhi, students, staff and faculty members celebrated Baisakhi at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. Langar of Halwa-chhole prashad were distributed amidst Gurbani Shabad recitation. Baisakhi is a significant festival marked with formation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors under Shri Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 in Anandpur Sahib near Ropar in Punjab and also, with starting of the harvest season.

Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha and Registrar, Shri Nagendra Singh Jamwal, greeted all faculty, staff and students on this occasion. Dr. Balbir Singh, Mr Opinder Sidhu and all Sikh sangat of SMVDU expressed thanks to SMVDU administration for their support and encouragement for celebrating cultural festivals and for creating vibrant environment in the SMVDU.
