SMVDU, Katra, 30thMay,18. Mr. Biswajit Mishra and Mr. Sudhakar Kumar have been shortlisted for admission into Master of Technology, IIT Bombay. Mr. Mishra and Mr. Kumar have been offered admissions into the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Systems and Control Engineering respectively. It is a matter of immense pleasure that both of them have completed their Bachelor of Technology from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra in 2016. The former has completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering, whereas the latter in Electronics & Communication Engineering. Mr. Mishra was a recipient of prestigious IITB Research Internship Awards 2016. Later, he joined IIT Bombay as a junior research fellow in June 2016. On the other hand, Mr. Kumar went to Academia Sinica (Taiwan) and IIT Mandi for short-term research programmes after his graduation. Later, in May 2017, he joined IIT Bombay as a project research assistant. Now, both of them will start their first year M.Tech course at IIT Bombay in July 2018.
SMVDU, Katra 30th May, 18: Dr. Rajnish Mishra, Professor of Linguistics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi delivered lectures on Literature as a Discourse of Knowledge during Two Week Summer School-cum-FDP, organized by the School of Languages & Literature, SMVD University. In his lectures, he discussed about the various aspects of the nature and structure of Indian Literary Theories. In this light, he mentioned numerous seminal Sanskrit texts such as Rajashekhara’s Kavyamimasa, Bhartrihari’sVakyapadiya, Bharata Muni’s Natya Sastra, Panini’s Astadhyayi and alike. He also highlighted the noteworthy contribution of Acharya Abhinavagupta, the great philosopher from Kashmir and deliberated upon the linguistic and interpretative nature of the Indian literary theories. Prof. Mishra is an expert in Sanskrit Linguistics, Philosophy of Language and Literary Theory. He also has an expertise in Comparative Poetics and Aesthetics, Kashmir and Buddhist Philosophy. Prof. Mishra has three books and a number of research papers and articles published in reputed journals and also has been the editor of various encyclopedias.

The School of Languages and Literature, SMVD University is organizing a Two Week Summer School-cum-FDP on “Language, Literature and Interpretation: Theory and Praxis”wef 28 May-08 June, 2018. The said event shall include rich and insightful sessions on literary and language studies to upgrade the existing level of knowledge and skills as reported by Dr. Amitabh V. Dwivedi, Coordinator of the event. SMVDU,Katra29th May, 18: Prof. N.D.R. Chandra, Ex Vice Chancellor of Bastar University, Jagdalpur and Professor of English at Nagaland Central University delivered two lectures on New Criticism as well as Cyber Literature during Two Week Summer School-cum-FDP, organized by the School of Languages & Literature, SMVD University. In the former lecture, he threw light on the various differences between traditional and modern criticism and emphasized on the blurring of the boundaries between technology and literary discourse. He touched upon the various other concepts such as de-familiarization, deviation, foregrounding and alike. He also discussed some of the works of critics like Cleanth Brooks, T.S Eliot, I.A Richards and Allen Tate.
In the subsequent lecture, Prof Chandra deliberated on the current trend of Cyber Literature and its revolutionary impact on the present readers. He focused on the contemporary significance of the Classics, Cyber and indigenous literature to enhance the dimensions of our knowledge in the academic curriculum. The lecture familiarized the participants with the relevance of integrating global and local narratives, also known as Glocalization.
Prof. Chandra has been a Fulbright Nehru Senior Post Doctoral Research Fellow at Brown University, Providence and Wisconsin University, Madison USA. He was also a member of Chattisgarh State Higher Education Council from January 2014 to September 2016. He has authored 25 books and more than 100 research papers in reputed journals
SMVDU Katra, 16 th May,18. A National Level Entrance Examination, namely Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Engineering Entrance (SMVDUEE-2018) conducted successfully on 16th May 2018 at different Centres across the country, chiefly New Delhi/NCR, Chandigarh, Varanasi, and SMVDU Campus, Katra where more than 1,000 students participated. Prior to that, the interested candidates applied online on SMVD University Website Portal, and consequently received their Admit Cards. Further, on the basis of their performance, each candidate shall be allocated a unique rank in the SMVDUEE-2018. Research scholar in the School of Biotechnology, Ms. Meenu Sharma, working under the supervision of Dr. Narendra K Bairwa and co-supervision of Prof. V.Verma has been awarded a FEMS Meeting Grant for Early Young Scientists in amount of 220 Euro. Ms. Meenu Sharma presented her research work in the FEMS meeting on “The Non- conventional Yeasts: from Basic Research to Application in Rzeszów, Poland from May 15-18, 2018. Her work was accepted for the presentation in the session: Sensing, Signaling, Stress Response and Membrane Transport. The meeting was organized by the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, Faculty of Biology and Agriculture, University of Rzeszow, Poland and was supported by the International Commission on YEAST.

Also, the PG and research students have successfully completed a 08-Week NPTEL Online Certification Course, funded by Government of India in Literary Theory and Literary Criticism under the supervision of Prof. Aysha Iqbal, IIT, Madras. During the course, the faculty member and his students learned many new concepts and approaches related to Literary Theory and Criticism, and update their knowledge; they believe that such courses are essential for the growth of Faculty Members as well as students of an institution.
Katra, 24 May’ 18. Dr. Sachin Kumar Gupta of School of ECE, SMVD University bagged Elite+Gold Certificate in the NPTEL MOOC Course on “Cryptography and Network Security” conducted by IIT, Kharagpur. Also, the M. Tech. (ECE) students, namelySyed Zainab Altaf, Atul Banotra, Diwankshi Sharma, Shivani Bhat, Mehul Rajesh, Mantisha Gupta, Syed Tooba Shamim, Mohit Kumar successfully qualified and secured Elite grade. Notably, only 19 candidates qualified for Elite+Gold Certificate, out of 13459 registered candidates for the course. Dr. Gupta and the students of the School of ECE thanked the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain for this constant motivation and support.
A TEQIP-III sponsored One-Week Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Emerging Issues in VLSI Design” from 7th-11th May 2018 began in the School of Electronics & Communication Engineering, SMVD University, Katra with an objective to provide an exposure to the faculty members, research scholars and masters’ students in the field of “Emerging Issues in VLSI Design”. Dr. K. R. Jha, HoD (SoECE), welcomed all participants and resource persons, including Dr. Ashwani Rana, NIT Hamirpur, Dr. Samaresh Das, IIT Delhi and Mr. Tarang Agrawal (Senior Verification Engineer) from ARM Embedded Technologies, Bangaluru. The FDP Coordinator, Dr. Vijay K. Sharma, informed about the importance of VLSI design, its applications and various challenges in the modern era of Electronics. Dr. Sachin K. Gupta, FDP Coordinator, reported that the event attracted nationwide participation from various reputed institute and industry, such IITs NITs, and G. B. Pant Engineering College from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir to mention a few.

SMVDU, Katra:Aqib Mujtaba, research scholar at the School of Economics at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), presented a research paper, titled “Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment Inflows in India” in International Conference on Recent Research and Innovations in Social Science & Education, organized by Osmania University, Hyderabad on 19th May 2018. The conference was a meeting ground of various intellectuals, including Prof. S. Ramachandram (Vice-Chancellor Osmania University), Prof. B.S. Reddy (Principal Scientist), Dr. MohdAbubakar (Nigeria), and Prof. NeerajTayagi (Delhi University). The research student is working under the supervision of Dr. Pabitra K. Jena. The research paper has also been selected for publication in a reputed UGC refereed journal with a good impact factor as reported.

SMVDU Research Students Ms. Tanima Anand, Akanksha Sharma and Ayushi of School of Languages and Literature, presented their papers in One-Day International Conference on “Endangered Languages of Delhi-NCR” at National Law University, Delhi on 8th May, 2018. The conference aimed at supporting and promoting research in Indigenous and Endangered Languages focussing upon marginal languages, non-scheduled languages, languages of tribal and nomadic communities and the languages that deserve a measure of social empathy. Ms.Tanima Anand presented a paper titled “Dogri Modal Auxiliary: An Inquiry into the Dogri Modal”, Ms. Akanksha Sharma presented a paper titled “The morphology of borrowings in Modern Standard Hindi”, and Ms. Ayushi presented a paper titled “Tracing Reduplication Patterns in Western Pahari Languages”. The conference attracted various eminent personalities from all over the globe, particularly Prof. Uday Narayan Singh, Prof. G. S. Bajpai, Prof. Shailendra Kumar Singh, Prof. J.C. Sharma, Prof. Rajesh Kumar and alike were present to grace the occasion. Prof. Maya Khemlani David, Prof. David Dass and Prof. Phool Kumar Malik presented their views through Skype and appreciated all the endeavours of budding scholors. The research papers of the research students of SMVDU were acknoweldged at a high level and suggested them to continue their researches as it would help their indigeinous languages to grow at a global level.
Katra, 24 May’ 18. In an interaction with the personnel at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur, Ms. Surbhi Sharma, Research Scholar at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), presented a talk on ‘Computer Security and Window Forensics’. During the talk, she discussed how to identify different cyber attacks and provide effective countermeasures to deal with them. Also, issues related to identify and seize digital evidences from the crime scenes, and to recover data from computer and hard disks was discussed. Her lecture also included topics, such as cyber evidences acquisition steps, cloning of evidences, Window Systems and Different Artefacts in Digital Forensics, including Windows Registry, Windows Event Logs and Window Forensics Tools, etc. Ms. Surbhi Sharma is working with Dr. Baijnath Kaushik, Head of theSchool, and the research scholar had a wonderful experience, she further said.
Ms. Surbhi Raina, MBA final year student from School of Business, Faculty of Management, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, attended International Conference on Data Envelopment Analysis from 16th -18th April, 2018 at Aston Business School, Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom. During this DEA40: International Conference on Data Envelopment Analysis, Ms. Raina presented a research paper “Assessment of Technical Efficiency and its Components of Indian Banks: A Study from cross-sectional perspective”. In this study she evaluated the technical efficiency in 44 Indian Banks by applying Data Envelopment Analysis for the cross sectional data. In the present study the level of slack and radial movements have been measured along with identifying benchmarks for poor performing banks. Her research work was appreciated by the distinguished participants of the conference such as Mark Hills, Chief Executive Officer of YMCA CREWE, UK; Dr. Almoghirah Alamin Sudan, Africa; Ane Elixabeta Ripoll Zarrage, Assistant Professor at School of Economics, university of London, etc.
Katra, 18 April, 18. In a recent development, the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences gets new Dean, namely Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra. Prof. Mukhopadhyay has been already serving as a Professor and Dean, Faculty of Management, and until recently the Vice-Chancellor has appointed him with an additional charge of Dean, Humanities & Social Sciences. Prof. Mukhopadhyay is a dynamic personality and an excellent researcher. He has a number of significant publications in his credit, and his academic articles publishes regularly in leading newspapers.
Mr. M.I.G. Suranga Sampath (a Sri Lankan national) who is a research scholar in Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, visited the School of Mathematics, SMVDU, Katra for one month in April, 2018. Mr. Sampath had come here to consult Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Mathematics. Dr. Kumar is a faculty of Operations Research and he is actively engaged in research work in the area of queuing theory. The Chinese scholar had fruitful discussions with Dr. Kumar. He worked on a queuing problem with heterogeneous servers, feedback and retention of impatient customers, and obtained some useful results in transient state. A joint research paper based on this work has been communicated for publication in a SCI indexed journal. The foreign scholar has expressed his gratitude towards SMVDU for providing him the boarding/lodging facilities along with excellent academic environment. He has expressed his desire to visit the University again.
SMVDU Katra: Mr. Dushyant Pratap Singh, a B.Arch. student of School of Architecture and Landscape Design, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, has been awarded three month’s summer internship from July to September 2018 at ™ney Architecture, Turkey, the Human Resource Department of ™ney Architecture confirmed so by a letter to Turkish Embassy of India. The ™ney Architecture is a leading firm in Turkey and Mr. Dushyant will be assisting the Design Team there. The Human Resource Department of ™ney Architecture has also confirmed the compensation of travel in favour of Mr. Dushyant. The internship will be part of his professional practice. Prof. Rajeev Garg, Head, School of Architecture & Landscape Design congratulated him.
