Er. Sparsh Sharma, Research Scholar DoCSE, SMVDU and a Cyber Security enthusiast, gave a One-Day Invited Guest Lecture on topic “Countering Cyber Crimes and Cyber Terrorism” at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur on 29th November 2017. The lecture was attended by J&K Police officers in which they were taught how to deal with Cyber Crimes and Cyber Terrorist activities which are on the rise these days. Er. Sparsh Sharma gave practical demonstrations on various topics which would be helpful to the Police forces in curbing and solving cybercrimes. Issues like Investigation of Spoof Calls, SMS, Breaking Android and Computer Passwords, Recovery of Deleted data from mobile phones, VPN & Tracking, Mobile phone location tracking were also covered.
Er. Sparsh Sharma is pursuing his Ph.D. from SMVDU Katra under the supervision of Dr. Ajay Kaul, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, SMVDU. He has earned various International Certifications on Cyber Security from USA. Sparsh Sharma has already given various invited lectures on hacking and cybersecurity to J&K police, BSF and various colleges, universities across the country.
Ms. Reya Sharma, Research Scholar, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, has attended 3rd International Conference on Next Generation Computing Technologies (NGCT 2017) organised by University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
During the Conference, Ms.Reya Sharma presented a paper entitled “A Model for Resource Constraint Project Scheduling Problem Using Quantum inspired PSO”. The research paper focused on potential of using Quantum inspired PSO for solving the RCPSP problem. Ms. Reya also got the opportunity to interact with eminent academicians, researcher scholars, scientist and industrial experts across the globe working in the field of Soft Computing, Fuzzy Control, Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning and shared the recent ideas with them.
It is pertinent to mentioned that Ms. Reya Sharma is currently working on handwritten script recognition using Machine Learning Classifiers and also pursuing her Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Baijnath Kaushik, Head and Associate Professor of Computer Science and co-supervision of Dr. Naveen Kumar Gondhi, Assistant Professor of Computer Science. SMVDU Katra: Mr. Abhinav Dwivedi, just completing his B.Tech. from the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering SMVDU, is offered admission by Universita-di-Pisa – University of Pisa, Italy. On account of his application and an online oral examination conducted 2 weeks back, he received a letter from the University dated 16th May for admission into Master’s program in Data Science and Business Informatics. As per the offer, he has to enter the standard admission procedure by the end of July 2017. Semester will start on 18th September of the academic year 2017-18.

Presently it has about 50 thousand students and it is ranked within the top 10 national universities of Italy. Mr. Abhinav specializes in Computer Vision, Compiler Implementation and Data Science. SMVDU Katra: Deepak Sharma, working in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, presented a research paper in 6th IEEE International Conference on Computer Application in Electrical Engineering: Recent Advances, under CERA17 organized by Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Roorkee. The conference was attended by eminent scientists and researcher from across the world. Mr. Deepak Sharma research works was based on “ANN Based SVPWM for Three-Phase Improved Power Quality Converter under Disturbed AC Mains”. The paper was authored by Deepak Sharma and co-authored by Prof. A. H. Bhat and Prof. Aijaz Ahmad, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, NIT Srinagar. The research article highlighted the effects of Disturbed Supply on Converters and proposed a novel Artificial Intelligence Technique control approach for fast and better performance of three-phase Improved Power Quality Converters for balanced, unbalanced and distorted AC Mains.
SMVDU Katra: Sparsh Sharma, a son of the soil and Research Scholar and Dept. of Computer Science Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, gave invited lecture on topic “Ethical Hacking and Cyber Terrorism” at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur and BSF Head Quarters, Jammu. Mr. Sharma, an emerging expert in Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking, is a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and has given various lectures and Seminars in different Universities and Colleges across India and is currently perusing PhD under the supervision of Dr. Ajay Kaul, Assistant Professor and Head Dept. of Computer Science, SMVDU.
As Ethical Hacking and Cyber Terrorism are the challenging areas for police administration and security forces to ensure law and order, it is warranted that the officials be well trained about the necessary safety and vigilance measures. Mr. Sparsh is engaged with the field and also emerging as a trainer and cyber counselor. Dr. Kaul congratulated him for his outreach initiative.
Niharika, Research Scholar, Deptt. of Computer Science and Engineering, SMVDU, presented a paper entitled “Recent Trends of Workflow Scheduling Algorithms in Cloud Computing under Qos Constraints” in IEEE sponsored 4th International Conference on Signal Processing, Computing and Control (ISPCC 2017) organised by Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, India. In this Conference Ms. Niharika got the opportunity to interact with eminent scientist, academicians as well as researchers and industrial experts across the globe working in the field of computing, signal processing and their applications and shared the recent advancements with them.
It is pertinent to mentioned that Ms. Niharika is currently working on text analytics of medical transcripts using Machine Learning Classifiers. She is pursuing her Ph.D under the supervision of Dr. Baijnath Kaushik, Head and Associate Professor in Deptt. of Computer Science and Engineering.
SMVDU, Katra: Mr. Rushal Verma, a computer science 3rd year student of SMVDU, is to do his three months summer internship at Digital Product School of UnternehmerTUM Deutschland, Germany, from May to July this year. The School will offer him the unique opportunity to develop state-of-the-art digital products in interdisciplinary fields, participation in which include employees from BMW, Daimler, Audi and other highly skilled university students. The program will be run in cooperation with Zentrum Digitalisierung Bayern. The institute was founded by the noted technologist Susanne Klatten in 2002 in which more than 50 high-growth technology start-ups each year and its unique offering, it is the leading center for business creation in Germany. The program will take place at the IBM Watson IOT Center in the Highlight Towers Munich. Ms. Rudrika Kalsotra, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, SMVDU, has participated in 4th International Conference on Signal Processing, Computing and Control (ISPCC 2017), technically sponsored by IEEE Delhi Section held at Jaypee University of Information Technology, Solan, from 21st -23rd September,2017. She has presented a research paper titled “Morphological Based Moving Object Detection with Background Subtraction Method”. She is currently working on moving object detection for intelligent video analytics under the supervision of Dr Sakshi Arora, Assistant Professor, DoCSE. Ms. Rudrika’s work has potential applications in the field of video surveillance, optical motion capture, target tracking etc.
Ms.Vippon Preet Kour, M.Tech scholar, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, has attended an International conference on Advancements in Engineering and Technology, sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Ministry of Home Affairs, Indian Society for Technical Education and CSIR- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research,at Punjab, India. Er. Vippon Preet Kour presented a research paper titled "Optical Character Recognition Techniques in Urdu-A Survey" coauthored by Dr Naveen Kumar Gondhi, Assistant Professor, DoCSE , SMVDU. The research paper focused on various optical character recognition algorithms based on conversion of typed and handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text and study of various parameters while maintaining the authenticity of the document. This conference has been attended by delegates from 14 countries.

SMVDU Katra: Ms. Navleen Kour, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, has attended an International Conference on Telecommunication and Networks TEL-NET 2017, technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE UP Section, at Amity University Noida Uttar Pradesh.
During the conference, Ms. Navleen Kour presented a research paper titled “An Efficient Algorithm for Facial Landmarks Detection using Haar-like features Coupled with Corner Detection following Anthropometric Constraints” coauthored by Dr. Naveen Kumar Gondhi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering. The research paper focused on an efficient algorithm that can be used for features detection of a face with high robustness and accuracy. This algorithm is performed on Jaffee database and provides increased speed of searching process by focusing on region of interest which limits the search area as well as reduces computational time.

In his invited lecture he gave practical demonstrations on mobile hacking and showed how easy it is for a hacker to gain access to a mobile phone. Countermeasures to prevent mobile hacking and other mobile related scams were also discussed.

Dr. Naveen Kumar Gondhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, SMVDU, presented his recent research paper titled “Survey on Machine learning based scheduling in Cloud Computing” in the 2017 International Conference on Intelligent Systems, Meta-heuristics & Swarm Intelligence (ISMSI 2017) held in Hong Kong.
This International conference was organized under the ages of ACM International and International Neural Network Society (INNS-INDIA) Regional Chapter. The conference was attended by scientists, researchers and scholars from 21 different countries across the world.
Dr Naveen Kumar Gondhi highlighted the algorithms and techniques for scheduling of virtual machines to provide dynamic load balancing, dynamic scalability and reallocation of resources. He elaborated the various Intelligent algorithms used for the optimization of results and minimizing the makespan scheduling while utilizing the resources efficiently based on dynamic environment such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Simulated annealing (SA), Tabu Search (TS), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Artificial Immune System (AIS), Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BF), Fish Swarm Optimization Algorithm (FS), Cat Swarm Optimization Algorithm (CS), Firefly Algorithm (FF), Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CS), Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Bat Algorithm (BA).
Dr. Gondhi is highly grateful to the SMVDU authorities for funding his visit to Hong Kong, under PDA grant for attending this international conference for learning and sharing of knowledge.
SMVDU Katra: Nilay Jayswal, a final year B. Tech. student of Department of Computer Science & Engineering grabbed and successfully completed an internship with "Online Visas, Inc." an ancillary company of "Velie Law Firm" based in Oklahoma, USA. He made contributions to the Online Visas Gateway Web Application which is a massive platform for global immigration. He started the internship in the month of May and completed in July. His job duties included extending and editing the document production functions in Online Visas Gateway. Through his work experiences development of an entrepreneurial instinct and analytical abilities in him, a better understanding of working to a deadline, planning ahead and team work. He used technologies like PHPRtfLite, SetaPDF, PHP, AJAX, Javascript, Knowledge of Database development tools etc.
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering congratulated Mr. Nilay. He says in his interaction with faculty and peers that failures are very important experiences as they teach us a lot. There are plenty of people who desire success but the very basis of success is that only few of them are able to dismantle the old frameworks of thinking and doing and grow up capable and successful. It may be noted that Mr. Nilay has already worked as a Software Developer in an internship position at The American University in Cairo, Egypt, from December 2016 to February 2017.
aaNiharika D/o Bharti and Dr. Bharat Bhushan Gupta who has been awarded 1st best poster award in the 12th JK Science Congress on the theme "Science and technology: Emerging trends and Innovations" held at University of Jammu from March 2nd -4th, 2017, in the section mathematical, statistical and computer sciences. The poster was presented on "Task Scheduling Algorithms in cloud orchestration". Niharika is pursuing Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Naveen Kumar Gondhi at Department of CSE at SMVDU, Katra.
SMVDU Katra: Mr. Sparsh Sharma, a certified Forensic Investigator and a Cyber Security enthusiast, gave a 1-day Invited Guest Lecture on various topics related to ‘Disk Forensics’ at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur yesterday. In his talk he gave practical demonstrations on how to identify and seize digital evidences from the crime scene, how to recover deleted data from the mobile, computer and hard disk. Topics like how to bypass password lock from Windows, Android and other computer applications was also covered. His talk also included cyber evidences acquisition steps, cloning of evidences, hashes and digital fingerprints, application password recovery, window password bypassing and recovery, android password recovery, e-mail header analysis, Base64 encoding, Chrome and Mozila SQ Lite history database parsing, recovery of history, cookies and favourites, bookmarks, URL obfuscation techniques and e-mail analysis etc. Mr. Sparsh Sharma is pursuing his Ph.D. under supervision of Dr. Ajay Kaul, Head Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, SMVDU.
